Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

ScootNav is an independent electric scooter navigation app available at scootnav.netlify.app. The app is operated by an individual developer based in Magog, Quebec, Canada.

2. What Data We Collect

When you use the app without signing in:

• GPS location — used only to show your position on the map and provide navigation. Never sent to our servers.
• Trip history — saved locally on your device only. We never see it.
• Scooter settings, saved places, preferences — stored locally on your device only.

When you sign in with Google:

• Your Google display name
• Your Google email address
• Your Google profile picture URL
• Your points total, total kilometers, total trips, and streak days
• Your last 50 trips (name, date, distance, duration — no GPS coordinates)

This data is stored in our database (Supabase, hosted in the United States) and is used to display the global leaderboard and sync your progress across devices.

3. What We Do NOT Collect

• Passwords (Google handles all authentication)
• Payment information
• GPS route coordinates or location history
• Device identifiers or advertising IDs
• Browsing history or behavior outside the app
• Any data from children under 13

4. How We Use Your Data

• Leaderboard — your name, avatar, and points are publicly visible to all app users on the global leaderboard.
• Cross-device sync — your trip stats sync to your account so you don't lose progress when switching devices.
• App improvement — we do not use your data for analytics or app improvement at this time.

5. Third-Party Services

ScootNav uses the following third-party services:

• Google Sign-In — authentication. Google Privacy Policy
• Supabase — database for leaderboard data. Hosted in the US. Supabase Privacy Policy
• OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — maps and address search. Your search queries are sent to their servers. OSM Privacy Policy
• Open-Meteo — weather data. No personal data sent. Open-Meteo Terms
• CartoDB — map tiles. No personal data sent.
• Mapbox — map rendering and navigation. Location data is processed locally. Mapbox Privacy Policy
• Stripe — payment processing for ScootCoins and Pro subscriptions. Stripe Privacy Policy

5b. Direct Messages

If you use the in-app messaging feature, messages between riders are stored in our database (Supabase). Messages are only visible to the sender and recipient. You can request deletion of your messages by contacting us.

6. Data Retention

• Local device data (trips, settings, places) — kept until you clear your browser data or uninstall the app.
• Leaderboard data — kept as long as your account is active. Deleted upon request.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your data — contact us and we'll show you what we store.
• Delete your data — contact us and we'll remove your account from the leaderboard database within 30 days.
• Correct your data — update your display name and avatar in the Ranks tab at any time.
• Export your data — your local trip history is accessible in your browser's localStorage.

If you are in the European Union, you have additional rights under GDPR. If you are in Quebec, Canada, you have rights under Law 25 (Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector).

8. Children's Privacy

ScootNav is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
